Kjèr mo ekè were (2022)

The language we use provides structure to our world and reflects how we see and experience everything around us. Of course, the downside is that language sometimes falls short, which can lead to misunderstandings. Helena Cnockaert’s project ‘Kjèr mo ekè were’ (‘Do come again’) tries to mediate the diversity of languages present at Watou. By reinterpreting testimonials from local residents in textiles, some elements are lost, but by the same measure, valuable new information is gained. Taking time, talking and especially listening is the process used to visualise what had previously remained hidden between the folds of time.
