The Church of Saint Bavo

The Church of Saint Bavo is one of the oldest churches in the region, with a history dating back to the 12th century. The interior is bathed in an 18th century atmosphere. A wealth of statues of saints, an abundantly sculptured communion rail and remarkable marble tombstones. And work by three contemporary artists:

Ilke Cop – Astrid Haerens (left nave)
Koen Vanmechelen (right side nave)

Religious services are still held in the church. These may take place during the hours of the Watou Arts Festival. Please take this into account when visiting. Is there a service? Postpone your visit and come back later.

During the Arts Festival, you can come and listen to a free concert by Com Jubilo, the Gregorian choir of Watou. Visit the website for more info.
